SPRINTS – Trickle Down

Dublin’s SPRINTS are back with “Trickle Down”, a standalone single out now on Sub Pop / City Slang. It arrives fresh off a sold-out US tour, days before they kick off an extensive European run starting in France on March 10. Karla Chubb (vocals/guitar), Sam McCann (bass/vocals), Jack Callahan (drums), and Zac Stephenson (guitar) — the four-piece that made one of 2025’s best records with All That Is Over — waste no time picking up where they left off.

“Trickle Down” opens with Chubb asking, “Has anyone ever tried to explain trickle down economics to you in a bar?” From there, it’s three minutes of driven post-punk, riff-first and politically sharp, cataloguing housing crises, rising costs, climate collapse and cultural drift with the kind of clarity that only comes from actually living through it. The band describe it as “the frustration of a generation stuck in ‘wait mode’ while everything burns”. What I like is how minimalist the track is — no detours, no atmospheric buildup, just the point, delivered at full force. The outro lands the argument cleanly: “No, I don’t know economics / No, I don’t know enough / But I’ve lived enough years in this city / To know you’ve royally fucked it up”. Hard to argue with that.

I’ll be catching them in Wiesbaden — happy to finally see them live — and this is precisely the kind of song that was made for a sweaty club.
